In the Serbian town of Obrenovac, residents can only gaze at the devastation.

Entire communities across Serbia and Bosnia are underwater, following the worst floods to hit the Balkans in at least 120 years.

"All that I had is lost, we have nothing now. The house is broken, all is broken."

Obrenovac was especially hard hit.

Nearly 8,000 people were evacuated from here.

Most were transferred to the capital Belgrade.

Many who returned on Monday had little to come back to.

"So everything has gone, the house will go down."

The floods have killed at least 38 people, from drowning or landslides.

But that number is expected to rise.

Authorities in Bosnia think some half a million people were evacuated or left their homes.
