RECORD FLOODING IN BALKANS
This footage was filmed last Thursday in Zavidovic, Bosnia. An entire bridge is unhinged, swept away by massive flooding and carried down the river before crashing into another bridge. Astonishing images there that bear witness to the deadly flooding in Bosnia and Serbia over the past few days.
Authorities in both countries have evacuated tens of thousands of people in the worst hit regions after three months’ worth of rain fell on the region in just a few days. Here for example in the Serbian town Obrenovac, countless houses are now only reachable byboat or helicopter.
The disaster has promoted a wave of solidarity online. Web users from both countries have taken to Facebook for example, to coordinate basic necessities drives for flood victims.
Well known faces are also sharing appeals for aid on social media: Serbian tennis players Novak Djokovic and Nenad Zimonjic for example, and also Bosnian footballer Edin Dzeko.
The diaspora has also started fundraising campaigns on platforms like GoFundMe. Bosnian born Amina Nuhanovic who now lives in the US, has raised over 50,000 dollars in two days. She will be donating the money to the Red Cross to help families in desperate need.
