Bangladesh ferry capsizes with hundreds on board

A ferry carrying at least 200 people has capsized during a storm in Bangladesh.

Desperate relatives gathered on the banks of the Meghna river, south of the capital Dhaka.

Police say around 40 of those on board were able to swim ashore. But the first bodies have also been recovered, as a search continues.

Bangladesh has a history of ferry disasters, with casualties sometimes running into hundreds due
to overcrowding and lack of enforcement of safety standards such as numbers of lifeboats.
