Clashes sending Mariupol deeper into chaos

The eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol has become a battleground.

City hall was just one of several buildings where Ukrainian forces clashed with pro-Russian separatists on Friday.

After the building was set ablaze, pro-Russian separatists scattered.

But a group later returned, while deadlier action moved elsewhere.

A civilian's body was found outside the police headquarters where a shootout and fire threw the city further into chaos.

Ukraine's interior minister said 20 people were killed, though the number of dead could not be independently confirmed.

An armoured personnel carrier brought by Ukrainian forces broke down and was quickly abandoned.

A group of rebels then seized the vehicle, towing it around the city as a trophy.

As international leaders try to find some form of settlement, the chaos in the east shows no sign of stopping.
