It was Dr. Nancy Segal, a prominent researcher of twins, who finally got them together in one place, but the women have already been communicating with one another for about a year.
That’s when Ann’s daughter sent a letter to Elizabeth, saying she was seeking her mother’s family.
Elizabeth knew she had a twin. Ann had been given up for adoption, while Elizabeth stayed with their mother.
The original plan was that they both be placed with another family, as they were illegitimate, and their mother was employed as domestic help and couldn’t care for them.
However, prior to their adoptions, it was discovered that Elizabeth had a curvature of the spine, and the odds she would be taken in were very low. She stayed with caretakers for many of her early years.
The reunited twins still have a lot of catching up to do, and as soon as Dr. Segal’s study is over, they’re going to get to it.
