Pistorius "screaming" after shooting Reeva Steenkamp

The murder trial of South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has resumed in Pretoria after a two-week break.

Two witness for the defence took the stand.

John Stander was the first person Pistorius called after he had shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Stander said Pistorius was distraught and said he had shot Reeva by mistake thinking she was an intruder.

Carice Viljoen, John Stander’s daughter, said she saw the accused carrying the body of Reeva Steenkamp down the stairs.

The defence team plan to call a ballistics expert and a psychologist who will testify to the court on the disability and vulnerability of Pistorius.

The prosecution is trying to establish that the 27-year-old is a reckless individual who refuses to take responsibility for his actions.

If found guilty Pistorius could face life imprisonment.

Pistorius maintains he shot Reeva Steenkamp by mistake thinking she was an intruder.
