PLAINS INDIANS

This was the beginning of the huge show about the Plains Indians of North America, at the Quai Branly museum in Paris, France. The first items on display were more "modern," being from the last century and even fairly recent. One of two horse masks in the exhibition is shown here.

The first Sunday of each month, Quai Branley museum is open for free. This is right by the Eiffel Tower and on the River Seine. It has vast collections of Asian, African, oriental and primitive arts, and often features modern and contemporary exhibits. The complex is enormous, with dining options, boutiques, a beautiful park and an enormous "living wall," and there is a médiathèque, a bar and cinema/theatre, ateliers, lectures and more. I would think that if you are visiting Paris only for a short period of time with perhaps a family including children, this museum combined with the Eiffel Tower and some other very famous attractions right nearby might make a nice day of it. I usually visit Quai Branly half a dozen times per year at least, and it never disappoints me.
