US school bomb plot foiled

Police in the U.S. state of Minnesota say 17-year-old John David LaDue was planning a massacre at this school.

Investigators say he planned to kill his family then unleash a bombing and shooting bloodbath Waseca's middle and high schools.

LaDue was arrested at this storage facility where officers say he was surrounded by explosive materials.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) CAPTAIN KRIS MARKESON, WASECA POLICE DEPARTMENT, SAYING:

"He intended to set off numerous bombs during the lunch hour, kill the school resource officer as he responded to help, set fires and shoot students and staff. He planned to be killed by responding law enforcement officers."

Police say guns, ammunition and three functional bombs were also found at LaDue's home.

And they believe his statements and the stock of explosives and arms suggest he planned to stage the massacre within two weeks.
