Mayoral opponent: Rob Ford is a "sad, sad mess"

Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford leaves his home a day after announcing he was taking a leave of absence.

The notorious politician is seeking help for a drinking problem.

It's unclear when he plans to return.

Toronto's deputy mayor started running the city on Thursday.

Rob Ford's brother and city councillor, Doug Ford, was saddened by the news, but felt it was for the best.

"As an older brother I am relieved that Rob has faced his problems, and has decided to seek professional help. This is not an easy thing for anyone to do, especially when you are the mayor of the city."

The announcement comes after months of denials he had a problem - and a year after the media reported he was on camera smoking crack cocaine.

This week, the Toronto Globe and Mail reported that a new video surfaced, showing him again smoking the drug.
