Street Collapse in Baltimore Sends Cars into Ditch

On Wednesday, April 30th, a huge hole opened up in Baltimore. Approximately a dozen parked cars had fallen into the opening.

The aftermath was a nearly block long section of 26th street where the street had collapsed . Approximately a dozen parked cars had fallen into the opening.
Although many people are referring to it as a sinkhole, authorities aren’t quite sure what caused the ground to give in. At this point in time, it’s being referred to as a street collapse.
Concerned residents first started contacting authorities shortly before 4 in the afternoon. They noticed the ground was just starting to collapse. Soon, a retaining wall tumbled into a ditch, along with a gate, sidewalk and parked vehicles.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake arrived on scene to view the damage. She spoke to news reporters and confirmed there were no injures.
She remarked “We’re extremely blessed that we're talking about property damage and damage to the streets and not any loss of life.”
A portion of 26th street was taped off and certain train services were suspended because the collapse left numerous cars and debris resting on the tracks.
One entire block of homes wwas evacuated. Engineers had to check structural stability of nearby residences. There is no word on when the aftermath of the collapse will be cleaned up.
