Dozens of Dead Cats Placed in Bags and Hung From Trees in Yonkers

Between 20 and 30 dead felines were found in plastic bags in a wooded area in Westchester County. The bags were left dangling from trees.
Authorities in Yonkers are currently looking into a disturbing case involving approximately 2 dozen deceased cats. Between 20 and 30 dead felines were found in plastic bags in a wooded area in Westchester County.
The bags were left dangling from trees and according to Ernest Lungaro, the director of the SPCA of Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement Division, they were all neatly tied to the branches, making it extremely clear a human is responsible for setting up the makeshift pet cemetery.
City sanitation workers stumbled upon the gruesome scene while doing an annual cleanup of the area. The cats were of differing ages and various stages of decomposition.
Authorities say it appears as though each bag only contained one cat, but it’s hard to tell for sure because it looks like wildlife got at some of the bags and ripped them open, spilling the remains onto the ground.
According to Lungaro, necropsies will be performed on some of the cats to determine the cause of death. All the cats were reportedly disposed of in the past year and appears they were deceased before being placed in the bags otherwise they would have torn their way out.
Yonkers police have launched an official investigation into the case. No suspect has yet been named.
