Justin Bieber is certainly no stranger to scrutiny and controversy. He recently decided to visit Japan’s Yasukuni Shrine and trouble immediately followed.

He had photos taken of himself visiting and praying in front of the shrine, then posted them to social media. Outrage immediately followed.
The shrine honors Japan's fallen soldiers during World War II, but the aspect that makes it so controversial is that some of the names mentioned committed horrible war crimes.
So, by Bieber posting the photos with an accompanying Tweet that noted ‘Thank you for your blessings’, it basically depicted him paying his respects to those who had committed monstrosities.
Basically, it’s not the type of publicity he or any other star would want. Netizens began commenting, asking him to apologize to the Chinese and pointed out he had visited a shrine dedicated to those who had murdered tens of thousands of Chinese people.
Directly following the backlash, the photos were removed and Bieber released a post noting ‘I was mislead to think the Shrines were only a place of prayer. To anyone I have offended I am extremely sorry.’
He also made sure to mention that he loves both China and Japan.
