Pakistan joined the United Nations immediately after its independence in 1947 – less than two years after the establishment of the UN. The UN has a trusted and close relationship with the government of Pakistan, providing development and humanitarian support to the country. Currently 20 UN agencies, funds and programs are operational in Pakistan and form the UN Country Team.
