Bus blast kills at least 71 in Nigeria, police say

A bus blast in Nigeria leaves charred wreckage and bodies everywhere.

Police say at least 71 are dead and 124 wounded after a bomb rips through a crowded bus station on the outskirts of Abuja.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) RESIDENT IN ABUJA, LUKMAN AMAN, SAYING:

"Immediately this thing happened we ran away for our lives, coming back I saw no less than 30 set of human beings here, while at the Nigeria general hospital they already took like 15 if I'm not mistaken, 14, 15."

A crowd of several hundred onlookers roamed through the scene.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Suspicion is likely to fall on Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which is carrying out a violent insurgency in the northeast.
