A 20-year-old woman was recently sentenced for killing her mother-in-law. Ellyzabeth Rainey, from Colorado Springs, will have to spend 41 years behind bars.

The case stretches back to April of 2013. It was then that Ellyzabeth reportedly tossed boiling water on her 59-year-old in-law, Deborah Rainey before throwing free weights at her head and stabbing her.

Ellyzabeth then poured bleach into the victim’s nose and mouth. The murder occurred at Ellyzabeth’s home, which she shared with her husband Jason Rainey and then 2 month old baby.

According to police, the couple’s relationship was in bad shape at the time of the crime and they were contemplating getting a divorce. The affidavit notes “Ms Rainey commented that Deborah has never liked her anyway … she got tired of being pushed around so 'she killed her.”

On the day of the killing, Ellyzabeth invited Deborah over for dinner and then carried out the horrific attack. A neighbor contacted police due to the noise and once officers arrived and stumbled across the gruesome scene, Ellyzabeth threw her baby at the cops and fled from the home.

Law enforcement authorities soon caught up with her and learned she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder as a child, but did not take medication for it.
