Islamist cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri appears in court

Egyptian radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri made an appearance here on Monday.

This comes ahead of his upcoming trial for terrorism-related charges.

He was indicted for participating in the 1998 abduction of 16 hostages in Yemen, resulting in the death of three Britons and an Australian.

The hearing focused on whether U.S. government witness Saajid Badat would be allowed to testify remotely.

Admitting to terrorism charges of his own, would-be suicide bomber Badat has since cooperated with authorities in the U.S. and United Kingdom.

According to a letter to the judge, Al-Masri plans to testify in his own defense.
