Malaysian PM says "with deep sadness" flight MH370 ended in Indian Ocean

Grief and despair in China as Malaysia's Prime Minister announces that the Malaysia Airlines plane that disappeared more than two weeks ago crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER NAJIB RAZAK, SAYING:

"This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that according to this new data Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean. We will be holding a press conference tomorrow with further details. "

The flight vanished from civilian radar screens less than an hour after take-off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing on March 8. There were 239 people on board.
