Turkey shoots down Syrian war jet

Turkish armed forces shot down a Syrian war jet on Sunday after Ankara claimed the plane had violated its airspace.

Condemning Turkey’s actions, Damascus described it as a ‘Blatant Aggression’ insisting the jet had been pursuing rebel fighters in Kasab inside Syria when it was brought down.

The Syrian border town has recently been the scene of intense bloody fighting between rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar al Assad.

Turkey’s military says it warned two Syrian Mig-23s four times after the jets came close to the Turkish border.

Damascus confirmed the pilot managed to eject before the plane crashed in Syria.
