A Nepal Airlines plane carrying 18 people on board went missing on Sunday (February 16) and is feared to have crashed in Nepal's mountainous region in the west.

According to CBC, the plane was scheduled to fly directly from Kathmandu to Jumla, but stopped to refuel at Pokhara. It then left Pokhara airport at about 12:40 p.m. and went missing shortly afterwards.

The plane had 14 adult passengers, one child, and three crew members on board. One of the passengers is believed to be a Danish national.

The New York Times reported that the plane crashed at around 1 p.m. in forests near Arghakhanchi. The Hindustan Times said the police search and rescue team has been sent to the area but there is no official confirmation of the crash yet.

Two helicopters were dispatched to take part in the search, but their operation has been suspended overnight, according to the BBC. Soldiers are continuing with ground searches in the area.
