'Need for Speed' sets actor Aaron Paul's pulse racing and wheels spinning

It’s fast – very fast – a big budget movie about illegal street racing with the odd shunt or two!

Don’t mistake it as out of the garage of ‘The Fast and the Furious’ series. No, the movie is an adaptation of a popular video game franchise starring Aaron Paul as an ex-convict out for revenge. The actor has some initial misgivings about the script.

“When I first saw the script for ‘Need For Speed’ on my desk, I was like, ‘Ugghh. No! What are they doing?’ I instantly thought well they’re just trying to make another ‘The Fast and the Furious’. That’s what my first instincts were. But I read the script and was so surprised that there was such a great, gritty story behind all of it – an a lot of fun driving,” he said.

Paul drove the powerful cars as much as possible while filming. The director Scott Waugh kept all the car stunts, of which there are plenty, true to life.

“There was no CGI (computer generated imaging) in this film. All of the stunts that you see in this film actually happened. He didn’t want to lie to his audience and that’s what really excited me about this project. And the fact that he wanted me to do most of my driving made me a little nervous but also made me very excited just to kind of get on the track as often as I could,” Aaron Paul explained.

‘Need for Speed’ is on screens in the UK from 12 March before revving up and racing into Europe’s cinemas.
