Las Vegas PD Is No Longer Responding to Fender Benders

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department recently announced that officers will no longer be dispatched to minor crashes. The change went into effect on March 3rd.
Fender benders can be time consuming for everyone involved but usually, they don't cause significant damages. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department recently announced that officers will no longer be dispatched to minor crashes.
The change went into effect on March 3rd. The reason why they made that decision is because the time and man power dedicated to fender benders was preventing officers from quickly responding to emergency calls.
The department released a statement that further elaborated the problem. It noted ‘Currently an average of 250 man-hours per week is dedicated to investigations involving zero injury property damage collisions. With fatalities a continued concern, traffic officers will be able to focus on enforcement from a proactive perspective.’
Motorists involved in a fender bender will now be responsible for filling out an accident report themselves and obtaining insurance information. The Las Vegas PD understood the new move is going to be an inconvenience to many drivers, however it was pointed out other cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego already have related policies.
Insurance companies aren’t thrilled with the lack-of-approach, as rates may have to be raised to account for increased cases of accident fraud due to over exaggeration and no police presence to corroborate reports.
