Russia tightens control of Crimea

In Crimea, Russia’s grip of the region shows no signs of ending any time soon.

For the moment the standoff with Ukrainian troops remains peaceful as scores of military personnel, thought to be Russian soldiers, continue to patrol a facility in Perevalnoye. Footage taken at the base showed dozens of armoured vehicles in support.

Russian ships have also been spotted moving in and around the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, where the Russian Black Sea Fleet has a base.

In the region’s capital Simferpol, the parliament also remains adorned by Russian flags.

The seizure of key strategic points in Crimea comes as Russian forces continue to reportedly line up large numbers of troops across the border with Ukraine.
