In Ukraine, a group of around 50 armed men in military uniform have attempted to seize Simferopol Airport in Crimea.

Eyewitnesses describe dozens of people wearing the same clothing as those who seized the parliament in Crimea on Thursday.

One of the uniformed men explained to journalists why he was there: “...we want that the people of Crimea to understand that we will stay here for a long, long time and that it’s a place not only for Russians and Tatars, but also for Ukrainians, Germans, Jews and they want to live here in peace.”

The airport is operating normally, however armed men in military gear with assault rifles are patrolling the airport grounds and going in and out of the control tower, according to eyewitnesses.
