'Om Namah Shivaya' is one of the most popular Hindu Mantra and also one of the most important mantra in Shaivism. It is a peaceful chant and a great redeeming mantra. This mantra is also known as Panchakshara, meaning, the five syllable mantra excluding 'Om'.
Lord Shiva, though known as the destroyer, He also symbolizes the inner self which remains intact even after everything ends.

Meaning:
'Om Namah Shivaya' means bowing to the supreme reality, Lord Shiva; the name given to the consciousness that dwells in all.
