Mexico gas fire: dozens of homes damaged, people injured

A liquid petroleum gas truck caught fire in Mexico on Thursday (January 16) during a liquified petroleum gas transfer in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico. Homes were burned down, vehicles were damaged and at least six people were wounded as dozens of families were evacuated from the surrounding region.
The accident took place at around 7:00 a.m. when a tank truck carrying roughly 15,000 liters of liquified petroleum gas caught fire while unloading fuel in a home at 3 Sur Poniente street, according to Univision. Among the homes that were burned down was the residence of former governor of Chiapas, Roberto Albores Guillén Armando.
According to eyewitnesses, a spark caused the fire, which spread immediately from the truck and generated flames so high and a column of smoke so large that firefighters and police were forced to temporarily evacuate the area.
Comitan Pipe Gas Com company was led by Octavio Lopez Velasco and supplied the home of Julio Palacio, Univision reported.
