Scores of Ukrainians injured in worst street battles since January

Scores of protesters and policemen were injured when anti-government protesters and police engaged in street battles in central Kiev on Tuesday (February 18).

A parliamentary deputy said on Facebook that three demonstrators had been killed. The report could not immediately be confirmed.

Ukrainian interior ministry said one man was killed, without specifying if he was a protester or a policeman. Ukrainian interior ministry also said several policemen have been wounded.

Several protesters have been wounded and were treated by medics on the side of the clashes.

The protesters had marched on to parliament but were prevented to do so by police. Clashes ensued, with thousands protesters torching vehicles and hurling stones.

Police replied by firing rubber bullets and stun and smoke grenades and spraying the protesters with water.
