Government official arrested for assaulting girl in Japan

A 44-year-old Japanese government official was arrested Wednesday for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old high school girl in public in Fukutsu Fukuoka last December.

The accused man, Hironori Ishibashi, is said to be the head of the Business Planning Section in the Fukuoka Ports and Harbours Bureau. Ishibashi reportedly targeted the girl on the evening of December 19th. He allegedly groped and fondled the girl from behind. The girl then told her teacher about the assault, and he reported it to the police. The cops identified Ishibashi using security camera footage. Ishibashi has denied the charges. He claims he was at the location, but he said he didn't remember the victim. The Port Authority issued a statement saying that it was 'full of regret' over Ishibashi's inappropriate behavior and has begun an investigation.
