Violence in mineral-rich DR Congo province displaces thousands
  • 10 years ago
Katanga is the wealthiest province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It's rich in minerals, holding the largest cobalt deposits in the world and a great deal of copper.

But an armed group known as Mai Mai Kata Katanga is fighting for the province to become an independent state.

And recent violence has left hundreds of thousands of people displaced.

Al Jazeera's Haru Mutasa reports from Katanga.
