Lunar New Year: celebrations from around the globe

Millions of people around the world gather to watch colourful processions and fireworks to mark the Chinese Lunar New Year.

January 31 marked the start of the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac, the Chinese consider the horse an auspicious animal and many horse themed decorations were on show.

In Beijing crowds gathered at Ditan Park for the Ditan Temple Fair, where traditional lion dancers gave a performance and stalls sold gifts and decorations.

Hundreds gathered at the Victoria Park flower market in Hong Kong to watch a parade and enjoy unseasonably warm temperatures, of around 20 degrees Celsius.

Whilst in New York's Chinatown hundreds gathered to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a festival of music and firecrackers.
