Zookeepers in Copenhagen made the controversial decision this week to shoot dead a two-year-old giraffe. The zoo decided to put down the animal, named Marius, because his genes were too similar to other animals in a breeding programme run by European zoos. Shortly after his death, the animal was fed to the lions in the Danish zoo. Credit: Søren Klintrup
