U.N. condemns suicide attack in Kabul

Foreigners are among the some 21 dead after a suicide bomber and gunmen target a restaurant in Kabul frequented by expats.

The Lebanese Restaurant was teeming with diners at 730pm Friday night when a man walked into the restaurant and detonated a bomb.

Gunmen then entered the restaurant and opened fire on people inside.

One representative from the International Monetary Fund and four United Nations employees were killed in the attack.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ARI GAITANIS, UNITED NATION SPOKESMAN IN AFGHANISTAN; SAYING:

"Well as you can imagine we're very shocked, we're very sad, and it's a very heavy day here for us at the U.N. in Afghanistan. We've lost some four U.N. staff members in this attack. You can imagine the effect it's had on staff members here. At the same time, we also strongly condemn this sort of incident. These sorts of attacks which target civilians and civilian locations are unacceptable and we call for the immediate halt."
