Alerting other drivers of dangers ahead is one thing. Letting them know cops are down the road doesn’t receive as much praise, at least not from law enforcement.

In October of last year, a 33-year-old man named Ron Martin was arrested for holding up a sign which read “Police Ahead”. Martin had stood on the median of a six lane highway in Frisco, Texas holding up his homemade warning.

A local police officer sitting in his unmarked squad car soon noticed what Martin was doing. That cop along with another he called for backup were able to arrest him, citing an ordinance stating sign holders must stay on private property.

It didn’t help that Martin has pulled very similar stunts in the past, getting busted alerting motorists of speed traps. During the month of his arrest, he was reportedly spotted twice before. One of those times he held up the sign while running up and down the median.

He received a citation for violating the city ordinance and just recently landed in court to explain the motorist-aiding escapades. There Martin said “I just don’t wear a uniform. I’m the same thing as a speed limit sign, just reminding people that there is a limit here."
