New Jersey Governor apologizes for staff's role in traffic jam scandal

(SOUNDBITE) GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYING:

"I am heartbroken and incredibly disappointed. I don't think I've gotten to angry stage yet, but I'm sure I will get there. I'm just stunned."

Governor Chris Christie says he trusted his staff, and was devastated to learn an aide was involved in a growing traffic scandal, and then lied to him about it.

(SOUNDBITE) GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYING:

"I had no knowledge about this, and first found out about this after it was over. Thought it was a traffic study."

The Governor, considered by many to be a GOP Presidential prospect in 2016, says he has fired the staffer involved in shutting down several lanes leading to the busy George Washington Bridge for four days in September. The closures caused chaos for hundreds of thousands and even delayed some emergency responders.
