Sheikh Hasina set for landslide win as Bangladesh goes to vote on January 5

Bangladesh goes to polls on Sunday, the 5th of January. A 154 of the 300 seats are going uncontested because the major opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its 18 party alliance have boycotted the polls. Months of protests, strikes and blockades by Khaleda Zia led BNP, the Jamaat and its wings have failed to sabotage the electoral process. Clearly the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina is set for a landslide win. But the credibility of the election will come under a shadow.
