A new mother in the Espirito Santo state of Brazil, gave birth on a rescue boat while being ferried from her flooded town to a hospital.

The dramatic delivery was caught on video, and shows firefighters helping the 22-year old woman safely deliver the child.

She’d started having labor pains the day before, but due to the disastrous conditions caused by 10 days of hard rains, was unable to find help.

Luckily, the next day a villager was able to flag down a rescue team and get her the assistance she needed.

On the yellow dinghy that transported her were a volunteer and two firefighters.

The craft was headed towards dry land and medical attention when it became clear the baby wouldn’t wait.

They were all still speeding towards the hospital when the boy was born.

Said one of the firefighters, "Life is precious. Many have died in the floods. I think the birth of the child was a miracle made by our hard work."

Thus far, the flooding has caused over 20 deaths and has impacted about 60 thousand individuals.

In the mountainous areas access is currently possible only by helicopter and boat.
