Bad weather dampens Spain's Canary Islands

Spain's Canary Islands are famous for their sun and sand but bad weather has hit the islands for two days now.

In the island of Tenerife, heavy rains flooded homes, downed trees, shut down some roads and created landslides.

There have been power outages for two days and schools here were closed on Thursday.

Overnight, the bad weather caused a small commercial plane to skid off the runway in the island's north airport.

No injuries were reported.

The local government maintained a "red alarm" as more heavy rain is expected.

The nearby islands of La Gomera and Gran Canaria were downgraded to "orange alarm."
