Russia: Putin dissolves state news agency RIA Novosti

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has closed the main state news agency RIA Novosti and replaced it with an organisation intended to promote Moscow’s image abroad.

The creation of the new news agency known as “Rossiya Segodnya” or “Russia Today” is seen as an attempt by Putin to tighten his control over the country’s media.
