Colombia's rebel FARC group to declare 30-day ceasefire

Colombia's Marxist rebel group, known as the FARC, said it will declare a 30-day ceasefire, starting December 15th.
It called on the government to respond with the same.
The announcement, made in Havana, comes a day after its guerrilla fighters were blamed for an attack in Colombia that left eight dead.
The Colombian government and the FARC are holding peace talks in Cuba aimed at ending a five-decade guerrilla war.
Farc negotiator Pablo Catatumbo:
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FARC NEGOTIATOR PABLO CATATUMBO, SAYING:
"We sincerely believe that the fatherland does not deserve this bloodshed. And because of this, in a unilateral way, we are proceeding to order all of our guerrilla units and militias to ceasefire and hostilities for 30 days beginning from 00:00 hours on December 15 in response to a deep national outcry."
Colombia's government has vowed to keep pursuing the FARC, even as talks are underway.
