For most of us, going to our loved ones' final resting place helps us still retain that connection.

Jessie Kuehl of Ontario, Canada, however was financially unable to visit her father’s Moncton grave on the 40th anniversary of his death. So she placed an ad asking area residents to go in her place.

The request received over 1100 hits and dozens went to the site on her behalf.

This was a particularly important year for Kuehl as, in her words, “The anniversary made me feel bad because I'm the age now he was when he died.”

She was also heavy-hearted as it had been years since anyone visited the site.

After placing her plea online, the supportive responses started to pour in.

Among those who went on her behalf, some brought flowers while others relayed the woman’s sorrow that she couldn’t be there herself.

One man said he felt compelled to visit as he’d lost his best friend a couple of years ago, and wanted to offer his support to another who was grieving a loss.

Should the occasion arise, Kuehl plans to return the favor by visiting a stranger’s grave in Ontario.
