No let up in Ukraine protests over EU integration

In the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, no let up in sight to mass protests.

For days now, tens of thousands have been protesting the government's sudden about face away from proposed integration into the European Union.

On Wednesday, students tried to deliver a giant petition to President Viktor Yanukovich to demand this former Soviet republic form closer ties to the EU.

(SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) PROTESTER AND ART STUDENT, SALANIA, SAYING:

"It's the people's appeal to the president, to our tsar, where every person can write down his ideas about our revolution, our freedom and our choice. Every person has an opportunity to write down their thoughts on this piece of cloth."

A quieter gathering outside this hospital in the city of Kharkivk, where a former Prime Minister is on a hunger strike in support of the protesters.
