Markscheider Kunst -- a Russian band with a German name that plays tropically hot music.
A true indie band at heart Markscheider Kunst are one of the most prominent club acts of St.Petersburg, that has true club following in Western Europe, Markscheider Kunst take their melodic, intoxicating, positive and irresistibly danceable music regularly abroad, crossing borders effortlessly in their music.
They have been touring western Europe, from Finland to Austria and beyond, regularly since 1997, and performed on numerous festivals such as Lowlands Festival (Netherlands 2002), Ilosaarirock (Finland 2004 ), Stanser Musiktage (Switzerland 2006). For summer 2007 they are booked e.g. for Imatra Big Band festival, and Kaustinen Folk Festival (Finland). In the summer of 2008 the group played festival Sziget in Hungary. They have opened for Manu Chao and performed with The Skatalites, who consider them one of the real heirs of Jamaican ska. In 2002, Markscheider Kunst were showcased at WOMEX.
Markscheider Kunst — русская группа с немецким названием, которая играет тропическую танцевальную музыку, живя в городе в котором очень длинная зима и очень мало солнца.
Буквально название группы переводится как Искусство границеразделения. И это символично, поскольку в своем творчестве группа стирает все стилистические границы.
Также это одна из немногих групп из Петербурга, которая имеет постоянную аудиторию в Западной Европе. Начиная с 1997 года группа принимала участие во множестве фестивалей : Lowlands Festival (Нидерланды), Ilosaarirock, Imatra Big Band Festival и Kaustinen Folk Festival (Финляндия), Stanser Musiktage (Швейцария), Sziget (Венгрия). Выступая в России такие группы как Manu Chao, The Skatalites и Gogol Boredllo неизменно приглашают их на «разогрев».
