Riot police shoot water cannons at protesters in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

Around three-thousand were protesting controversial government education policies.

Two weeks ago, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said new regulations could be drawn up to stop male and female students from living together in dormitories.

Some say this as an intrusion of privacy.

The government had already shut down mixed accommodations in 75 percent of state-run student housing.
