Video broadcast by Syrian TV on Monday (November 11) shows large explosions in Barzeh with smoke then engulfing much of the town.
According to state TV the explosions were carried out by militants fleeing the area following a government offensive. The news bulletin broadcast on Monday purportedly shows an army operation by government troops in Barzeh, near Damascus.
Tunnels reportedly used by militants can be seen in the bulletin that also shows government troops firing weapons and searching them and surrounding buildings during the offensive that the narration says is to liberate Barzeh and the surrounding areas."
