U.S. President Barack Obama told visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Friday (November 1) that the United States wants an inclusive, prosperous Iraq free of violence.

"Through-out this discussion, the main theme was the United States wants to be a strong and effective partner with Iraq and we are deeply invested in seeing an Iraq that is inclusive, that is democratic and that is prosperous. And I communicated with the Prime Minister that anything that we can do to help bring about that more helpful future for Iraq, is something that we want to work on," Obama said.

Maliki said he wants elections scheduled for next year to be held on time and that he is in total agreement with Obama on the need for a peaceful solution in Iraq, where an estimated 7,000 civilians have been killed this year.
