The Background are an American rock band who thrive from a well thought out DIY strategy. Based in the heart of Dallas, TX; the band is comprised of singer-songwriter Shaun Gunnels, guitarist James Gonzalez, bassist Sean Bottoms, and drummer Ray Baumgratz.
The band spent time honing their craft in the local Dallas music scene as well as logging shows regionally while releasing the 'Your Friends' EP to the masses in 2011. The Background have since released a 2013 sampler featuring their singles "Okay", "Hands Up", and "Take It Slow" while eyeing their debut 'Sunrise' EP release in the Fall of 2013. Their music video for "Okay" has seen more than 13,000 views on YouTube.
The Background has garnered attention with their live show by playing the Dallas stop of the 2013 Vans Warped Tour & logging shows with Everclear, NeverShoutNever, Mae, Sherwood, Action Item, Set It Off, Cady Groves, Eisley, Lydia, This Providence, The Dangerous Summer, and Sparks The Rescue along with SXSW 2012 & 2013 and numerous shows at Six Flags Over Texas.
The band plan to continue their momentum into 2014 with their debut 'Sunrise' EP (mastered by Tyler Smyth of Dangerkids) as well as the release of a handful of new songs late in 2013. The band will also spend time writing & redefining the way they bring their musical manifesto to the world with a full-length record on the horizon.
