Officials say the bomb was placed under the back seats of the bus. It was detonated through a remote-controlled device.

At least 17 people including two women were killed on the bus that was carrying government officials.

The bomb exploded as it traveled near a region known for its Islamist militant strongholds.

Blood stained the ground and nearby shops were damaged by the intensity of the blast.
