Google is reportedly branching out into the field of anti-aging focused healthcare, with their financial support of a program called the California Life Co., or Calico.

This is just the latest in business ventures, called moonshots, taken on by Google that are unrelated to their current core businesses.

The two founders of Google are involved with the Singularity University, which is a group that believes in the eventuality of human beings and machines coming together to achieve a kind of immortality through the use of technology.

Details about the Calico project like specific dollar amounts for how much Google is investing or how many employees are working on it have not been released.

But why is Google investing in something that is trying to extend human life?

Google CEO Larry Page is quoted as saying “In some industries, it takes 10 or 20 years to go from an idea to something being real. We should shoot for the things that are really, really important, so 10 or 20 years from now we have those things done.”

What do you think about Google’s participation in anti-aging research?
