Jago Punjab - Man held for defacing signboards in Chandigarh - 20 Sept 2013

Meet President of Panthic Vichaar Manch Baljeet Singh Khalsa, who was arrested for painting all English and Hindi official sign boards across Chandigarh and Mohali black. Baljeet has blackened at least eight such boards at various places in the UT and Mohali. He said, "The government officials are least interested in Punjabi language." He started the act of disfiguring the notice boards and signboards with painting black the boards of Rajiv Gandhi IT Park at Sector 29-30 roundabout. He then moved to Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 31, Paryavaran Bhawan in Sector 19, Survey of India Complex, Dakshin Marg, in Sector 32-A, Nirman Bhavan, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) building at Sector 31 and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti in Sector 31. He was arrested from a Gurudwara in Sector 40. He has also threatened to deface the signboards outside the Governor's and Chandigarh Adviser's house.
Also meet Comrade Devi Dayal Sharma, General Secretary, Chandigarh Punjabi Manch. He is also the general secretary of Communist Party of India and is working to promote Punjabi language in the world. The organisation is also working for Punjabi culture and teacher recruitment. He said it was a cause of concern that Punjabi language was dying but none of the governments, including the Centre is taking a stand on the matter.
