Tensions between Israel and Syria had meant the Jewish state was initially reluctant to allow droves of refugees to flow in from the war-ravaged country. Tel Aviv was also keen to avoid the resulting crises that have emerged in Syria's other border countries, such as Turkey and Lebanon. However, the humanitarian situation in Syria is now such that Israel has started providing medical treatment for the most severely injured Syrians, as our correspondent reports.
