Death penalty for four convicted rapists in India

A judge in India sentences four men to death by hanging for the gang rape and murder of a 23 year old woman.
A defense lawyer spoke to throngs of reporters outside the court.
(SOUNDBITE) (English/Hindi) DEFENCE LAWYER FOR TWO OF THE FOUR CONVICTED MEN, A. P. SINGH, SAYING:
"Today the verdict on the sentence of the Delhi gang rape case of December 16 has come from the court and all four accused, have been sentenced to death by hanging."
The 23 year old woman was brutally raped by six men while on a moving bus in Delhi in December of 2012. She was so badly abused during the incident, she died from her wounds.
The incident sparked national and international outrage with thousands of demonstrators protesting the country's lax anti-rape laws and ultimately led to the introductino of tougher laws.
One of the six perpatrators, who was underage at the time of the rape, was sentenced to three years in a juvenile detention center.
